However, they will be able to say no if they wish.
Users will be urged to get the upgrade when automatic updates are downloaded.

However, mindful of the bad publicity it received recently when it used its automatic updates facility to foist Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) on unsuspecting users, Microsoft will make sure that users have a clear option to refuse the IE 7 update.

Instead of installing automatically, users will be presented with three options on a screen describing the benefits of IE 7. The options are the familiar Install, Don't Install and Ask Me Later buttons.

Microsoft promises that clicking the Don't Install button will stop users from receiving any future prompts to upgrade to IE 7 from Microsoft.

After being accused of pushing spyware at users through its WGA anti-piracy program, the last thing Microsoft needs is further negative publicity about the IE 7 upgrade. It has classified the upgrade as high priority rather than critical, as was originally the case with WGA.

Microsoft has also released a tool that will let corporate users block the automatic update until the organization is ready to move from IE 6 to IE 7.

Some love wordings

I thought that I could love no other
Until, that is, I met your brother.
-----------------
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty and
so is your head.
--------------
Of loving beauty you float with grace
If only you could hide your face
-------------------
Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;
This describes everything you are not
---------------
I want to feel your sweet embrace
But don't take that paper bag off of your face
---------------
I love your smile, your face, and your eyes -
Damn, I'm good at telling lies!
---------------
My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:
Marrying you screwed up my life
---------------
I see your face when I am dreaming.
That's why I always wake up screaming
----------------
My love, you take my breath away.
What have you stepped in to smell this way
----------------
My feelings for you no words can tell,
Except for maybe "go to hell"
----------------
What inspired this amorous rhyme?
Two parts vodka, one part lime

GNOME 2.20 Released !

GNOME 2.20 is the latest version of the GNOME Desktop: a popular, multi-platform desktop environment. It's pretty annoying, but it's one of the things you've got to deal with in technology. It moves pretty fast, after all. So first there was USB, then there was USB 2.0, and now, wouldn't you know it, we're about to get USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 improves upon its successors by adding fiber-optic cable alongside the copper wiring, greatly increasing the speeds. The upgrade should allow for high-def devices, such as HD DVD or Blu-ray players, to use the standard to send data. As of now, today's USB cables aren't fast enough for such heavy transfers, sending data at 480 megabits per second. USB 3.0, on the other hand, will increase that tenfold to a whopping 4.8 gigabits per second. The fancy new cables should start hitting shelves and being used in devices around 2009 or 2010.

Apple's fight against iPhone unlocks may result in expensive bricks

Apple will actively work against any SIM unlocks of the iPhone, says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Jobs made the comments during a Q&A session that took place after yesterday's press event in London announcing availability details of the iPhone in the UK. When asked by a journalist whether unlocking was a concern for the company, Jobs said, "It's a constant cat and mouse game," according to ComputerWorld's account of the discussion. "We try to stay ahead. People will try to break in, and it's our job to stop them breaking in."

The break-ins that Jobs spoke of have been flying fast and furious in the last month or so. One of the first full SIM unlocks involved using a Turbo SIM card, a somewhat complex process for the average consumer. Then teenager George Holtz published a way to hardware unlock his iPhone with some soldering iron-fu and released instructions for other adventurous unlockers. But none of this was "big" news to the world until the first (commercial) software unlock of the iPhone was announced by iPhoneSIMfree. This sent waves through the iPhone community to push for a free unlock from the iPhone Dev Team, which was achieved just this week with the release of iUnlock, followed by the GUI app to go along with it, anySIM. This app began to appear in the third-party iPhone software update app, Installer, which enabled many iPhone users to install the unlock and experiment with ease.

ONE PARAGRAPH THAT EXPLAINS LIFE!*

.................Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS, which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. It was first released as a public beta on January 7, 2003, and a final version was included as the default browser in Mac OS X v10.3.

A beta version for Windows was released for the first time on June 11, 2007.

12 Reasons you will love it.....

1.Blazing performance.
The fastest web browser on any platform, Safari loads pages up to 2 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2.
And it executes JavaScript up to 2.8 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2.What does all that mean for you? Less time loading pages and more time enjoying them.

2.Elegant user interface.
Safari’s clean, sleek look lets you focus on the web instead of your browser. The browser frame is a mere one pixel wide. You see a scroll bar only when you need one. You see no status bar by default — a blue progress bar fills the address field as the page loads — giving you more room to browse and view the web. And with commonly used tools like a Google search field built right into Safari, you can get anywhere on the web faster.

3.Easy bookmarks.
Safari makes it easier than ever to manage your bookmarks. Know iTunes? Then you know Safari bookmarks. One click opens the single-window interface, where you can browse, search, and organize bookmarks the same way you browse, search, and organize music in iTunes.
Importing your current bookmarks couldn’t be simpler. In fact, the first time you open Safari, it imports all your bookmarks from the browsers you’ve been using. And if you want to import bookmarks later, just choose Import Bookmarks from the File menu.
Safari even helps you find sites to bookmark. Using the innovative Bonjour technology, Safari discovers and shows devices such as printers, routers, and webcams associated with web servers on your local network — automatically.

4.Pop-up blocking.
Say goodbye to annoying pop-up ads and pop-under windows that clutter up your desktop and distract you from your browsing.By default, Safari blocks all unprompted new windows. You can open new windows when you click links, but you’ll get no surprises from unexpected, unwanted pop-ups.

5.Inline Find.
Now you can locate any text on any web page using the Find command in Safari. Type a word into the new integrated Find banner under the bookmarks bar, and Safari shows you the found count and highlights matching terms while dimming the page below them. So you can view every instance — in an instant

6.Tabbed browsing.
With tabbed browsing in Safari, you can open and switch between multiple web pages in a single window. Drag and drop your tabs to rearrange them, open one in a new browser window, or merge all your current windows into one tabbed window.Safari resizes each tab depending on the number you have open. Set a bookmark for a set of tabs or revert to the tabs that were open when you last closed or quit Safari

7.SnapBack.
With most browsers, it’s easy to lose your way on the web. You go surfing, and before you know it, you’ve drifted far from where you started. Stop hitting the Back button and start using SnapBack in Safari. SnapBack lets you instantly snap back to your original search results or to the top level of any website, even after you’ve browsed down a few levels.
The SnapBack icon appears in the search field after you click a link in a search results page. Clicking the icon takes you back to the results page and even scrolls to the specific location you last viewed.

SnapBack also works in the address field. Type an address, click a bookmark, or click a link in email or another application, and Safari creates a SnapBack anchor point. When the SnapBack icon appears in the address field, click it to return to that anchor point instantly. So, if you type in the address of your favorite news site, click a link to read an article, then click another link, the SnapBack icon will take you back to the front page of the original news site

8.Forms AutoFill.
Now you need never fill out an online form from scratch. That’s because Safari Forms AutoFill completes online forms with information from your Address Book or from previously completed forms.Let Safari fill in your name, street address, city, zip code, email, and other information. Safari also gives you the option to automatically enter account names and passwords — all stored in a secure, encrypted format.

9.Built-in RSS.
Scan all the latest news, information, and articles from thousands of websites in one simple-to-read, searchable article list delivered right to you. The built-in RSS (Really Simple Syndication) reader in Safari tells you when new articles or blog posts have been added to your favorite sites, so you never have to guess.
Whenever you land on a page that offers an RSS feed, Safari displays an RSS icon in the address field. Click it and you view the simple RSS feed. Bookmark it and Safari tells you how many updates have been added since your last visit. The RSS view in Safari is customizable, so you can adjust article length or sort and filter articles by date, title, and source. You can also use the built-in search field to find articles relating to topics of interest. All from one place: Safari.

10.Resizable text fields.
Maybe the text field you’re typing in is a bit too small to read. Or maybe you just have a lot to say. Either way, Safari lets you resize text fields on any website, just by grabbing the corner of the field. Resize a field and the web page reflows to make room

11.Private browsing.
Your browsing is your business. Which is exactly why Safari offers private browsing — to keep your online activities private. Turn on private browsing and Safari won’t store your Google searches, your cookies, the history of sites you’ve visited, your download history, or information from online forms you’ve filled out.
If you’ve been browsing without private browsing turned on, just use Privacy Reset to empty your cache and clear Safari of your browsing, forms, and search history. It’s a one-click clean slate

12.Security.
Now you can enjoy worry-free web browsing on any computer. Apple engineers designed Safari to be secure from day one.
For starters, Safari uses robust encryption to ensure that your private information stays that way. When you browse a secure site, Safari displays a lock icon in the upper-right corner of the browser. If you want to know more about the credentials of a secure site, click the lock icon and Safari displays detailed information about the site’s security certificate.
Safari supports SSL versions 2 and 3, as well as Transport Layer Security (TLS), the next generation of Internet security. Safari uses these technologies to provide a secure, encrypted channel that protects all your information from online eavesdroppers. And Safari lets you use standards-based authentication such as Kerberos single sign-on and X.509 personal certificates, or proprietary protocols like NTLMv2 to log in to secure sites.
Safari also supports a variety of proxy protocols — services that help firewalls control what flows in and out of the network — including Automatic Proxy configuration, FTP Proxy, Web Proxy (HTTP), Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS), Streaming Proxy (RTSP), SOCKS Proxy, and Gopher Proxy

Check out this!

If you are a regular google user ,check out this following

put this string in google search:
?intitle:index.of? mp3
You only need add the name of the song/artist/singer.
Example: ?intitle:index.of? mp3 jackson

put this string in google search:
inurl:microsoft filetype:iso
You can change the string to watever you want, ex. microsoft to adobe, iso to zip etc…

For more searches:click here

Speeding up your Firefox!!!

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30 (mine is set to 100..hehehe).
This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. When quizzed, the mighty Microsoft PR battery quipped the end user price would be dependent upon the "retailers and OEMs".

The company claimed it had fixed an aggressive pricing for the product. But facts do not seem to bear that. Microsoft claimed that Windows Vista Home Basic will be priced same as Windows XP Home, which has been retailing around Rs 3,500.

However, industry sources told Indiatimes News Network the street price of Vista Home Basic (full pack and not the OEM pack which most retailers sell) would be around Rs 7,600 plus taxes (US price $199) for an individual buyer.

Similarly, the price for the Vista Home Premium edition would be Rs 9,000 plus taxes ($239), Vista Business for Rs 11,500 plus taxes ($299) and Vista Ultimate for Rs 15,500 plus taxes ($399).

The Office Pro Professional will be retailing approximately at Rs 17,000 and Office Standard at Rs 14,000. However, Microsoft claimed Genuine Windows Vista loaded PCs in India will retail at a starting price of Rs 22,000, of which an estimated OS price could be arrived at around 10-12 percent. That works to around Rs 2,500 and is a very unlikely price, market sources said.

Microsoft has dubbed Vista as the most important release of its dominant OS since Windows 95 was unveiled more than a decade ago. However, media reports suggest that Vista launch has been mired in similar pricing controversies in UK and Australia too.

"Microsoft has been understandably cagey about the Vista prices in India because Vista and Office prices indicate an almost 30 percent markup over the Windows XP and Office 2003 prices which could mark a slow uptake in the market. Naturally, there have been very few pre-bookings," according to a Delhi-based retailer.

Origination of Names of Great Companies

Mercedes :
This was actually financier's daughter's name.

Adobe :
This came from the name of the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the house of founder John Warnock.

Apple Computers :
It was the favourite fruit of founder Steve Jobbs. He was three months late for filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 0'clock.

Google:
The name started as a joke boasting about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders - Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor; they received a cheque made out to 'Google'.

Hotmail:
Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective uppercasing.

Intel:

Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company 'Moore Noyce' but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

Lotus (Notes) :

Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from 'The Lotus Position' or 'Padmasana'. Kapor used to be a teacher of ranscendental Meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Motorola:

Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called Victrola.

ORACLE:

Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was called Oracle (the CIA saw this as the system to give answers to all questions or something such). The project was designed to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The project eventually was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish what they started and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle and created the RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the company.

Sony:

It originated from the Latin word 'sonus' meaning sound, and 'sonny' a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.

Red Hat:

Company founder Marc Ewing was given the Cornell lacrosse team cap (with red and white stripes) while at college by his grandfather. He lost it and had to search for it desperately. The manual of the beta version of Red Hat Linux had an appeal to readers to return his Red Hat if found by anyone!

Yahoo!:

The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book 'Gulliver's Travels'. PepsiCo includes the Frito-Lay snacks business and Pepsi beverages, the second biggest US soft drink maker after the Coca-Cola Co.

"I realize when most companies change CEOs, there can be a fair amount of change and direction in strategy. That's not going to be the case today," Nooyi said.

"I don't see any need presently to change a strategy that's been working, especially after only 23 days on the job."

She said over time the company would adjust as circumstances demanded it. The strength of PepsiCo's portfolio, she said, is built on developing more products for increasingly health-conscious consumers, and introducing more non-cola beverages.

The company has diversified beyond its flagship cola products, which have been declining slightly, toward non-carbonated beverages such as Gatorade, Lipton ready-to-drink teas, Aquafina bottled water and its recently acquired Izze sparkling juice drinks.

Apple laptops switch on Core 2 Duo chips

Apple has unveiled a new line of its MacBook Pro laptops that feature Intel's Core 2 Duo processors.

The notebook models are the first to use Intel processors that are based on Intel's power-efficient Core Microarchitecture. Apple claims that the new chips on average will function up to 39 per cent faster than the Core Duo chips in the previous MacBook Pro models.

The three new MacBook Pro models feature 2.16GHz and 2.33GHz processor speeds. The 2.16GHz model will be available with a 15-inch screen and the 2.33GHz model will offer either a 15- or 17-inch screen.

The new models will also offer larger 120Gb or 160Gb hard drives and Firewire 800 connectivity.

“With an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, greater storage capacity and FireWire 800 connectivity, the new MacBook Pro delivers unprecedented performance and mobility in an incredibly thin and light design,” said Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller.

Originally launched by Intel in July, the Core 2 Duo chip bundles two processor cores on a single chip together with the new Core Microarchitecture.

The 15-inch models are selling for $1,999 (2.16GHz model) and $2.499 (2.33GHz model). The 17-inch model is slated for availabilty next week for $2,799.

firefox new version........

Firefox 2.0 is free, but it's a woefully minor improvement over Firefox 1.5 that suffers from various incompatibility problems, especially with themes and other add-ons. I wouldn't recommend this new version, to be honest. I'll be sticking with Firefox 1.5 at least for now. I recommend you do the same, or switch to the surprisingly solid IE 7.0.

To his credit, Paul has been a long-time advocate for Firefox, so I was a bit surprised by his take on the new version. The fact is, Firefox 2 is a huge improvement over the previous version. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Spell checking. A built-in spell checker lets users check the spelling of text entered into web forms (like the one I'm using to write this). This feature alone is a lifesaver.

Phishing protection. Paul says IE's is better, and I haven't put them to the test so I can't say. But the presence of this protection at all is surely a boon to Firefox users, and it will only get better with time.

Stability. Just today I had IE7 wedge up my entire Windows system. At least when Firefox crashes (and it still does sometimes) it has the courtesy to not take everything else down with it. Plus it remembers any tabs you had open and offers to reopen them for you.

Security. We could debate whether FF or IE is "inherently" more secure, as in which browser has fewer security holes that are waiting to be exploited. But there can be no argument about which browser has had the most exploits logged against it. Just recently there was another bad one involving ActiveX. I had to hide IE on my son's computer because he'll click on anything. Now all he can use is Firefox.

Updates. Firefox is undergoing rapid development. How often will we see IE improvements?

Extensibility. Firefox add-ons are immensely powerful, small, and easy to develop. If you know HTML and a little JavaScript you're more than half the way there. IE has extensions, but you have to write them in C/C++ which is (take my word as a 20-year C developer) much harder.

Portability and standards. Maybe you don't use a Mac or Linux desktop yourself, but an increasing percentage of your users do, especially in emerging markets. By developing your pages and applications using vendor-neutral standards (which Firefox has embraced) you can hedge your bets.

Open source. Firefox is available as open source so anyone motivated enough and skilled enough can go in there and make changes. If IE had been open source, how long do you think it would have had all those annoying CSS problems that bugged web developers for years?

The Internet Explorer team is (finally) making improvements to the Microsoft browser, and indeed IE7 has some nice benefits of its own. But in this round of the Browser Wars, Firefox 2 and the open source community come out on top. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the next version!

all e-mails are junk mails

An e-mail monitoring firm has reported that more than 95 per cent of e-mail is junk and less than 4 per cent is legitimate traffic.

E-mail security firm Return Path said 99 per cent of the computers it monitors have been taken over by spammers or virus writers.

Matt Peachey, regional director for IronPort, which monitors about a quarter of all mail sent across the Net, said its research revealed that about 80 per cent of e-mail came from compromised hosts.
